Supporting young people to become future leaders
At Capita, one of our strengths is the extent of career opportunities we can offer. Already we employ over 61,000 talented colleagues across many areas of expertise around the world, and work with clients from a vast range of industries and sectors. Because of this, we recognise the opportunity we can give young people to explore and discover the direction they want to take their careers. We also recognise that traditional routes into the workforce have relied on how much access young people have to education, resources, contacts, or those who’ve managed to secure previous work experience. We want to make sure that anybody with the motivation and potential, regardless of where they’ve come from, has every chance to be successful.
As part of the government’s Kickstart scheme, we’re already offering six-month placements to 16-24-years-olds from all different backgrounds, giving them a valuable first experience in the working world. We’re also working to make it easier for young people to learn more about us, and to come into the business feeling confident and fully supported by our teams.
Young people are our future leaders, and we’re dedicated to modernising and adapting to become what they need from an employer, whether that’s with 1-to-1 mentorship, access to wellbeing and mental health resources, the opportunity to move about and learn in different areas of our business, or achieve a more flexible work-life balance.
We know we can’t do all this alone, so we’re also building strong partnerships with different charities and youth organisations, experts who can help us unlock future potential. We’ve already partnered with The Youth Group to understand the most effective ways we can support young people currently out of work. With them, we’ve formed the Capita Youth Council, a 10-person strong team which includes three of our younger employees and seven external people, all aged 16-24 (see our Meet our Members document in Resources to learn more about them!). With our full support, they’ll meet quarterly for the next 12 months to discuss youth-related business issues and develop their own skills and potential. We believe that great ideas can come from everyone. As we transform our business, our Youth Council will be there to help empower young people and influence our thinking, making us a better organisation now and into the future.
At Capita, we help create better outcomes every single day. We offer services that cover many different areas of society in both the public and private sectors and partner with clients to give them the insight and opportunity to make people’s lives easier and simpler. Our software has been helping patients connect with clinicians remotely during lockdown, our teams are handling more than 100 million customer conversations, and our technology is already helping London on its way to becoming a zero-carbon city.
We’re a large organisation, committed to being a responsible business that makes positive contributions to society, and helps to address global challenges. Equally we’re committed to nurturing an open and inclusive culture within our business that reflects the diversity around us. That includes the diversity of our colleagues, our clients, their customers and the communities we work in. It’s how we’ll continue to invite fresh perspectives into our work, and transform our business so we can discover innovative and disruptive ways to positively impact the world around us.
